Product Overview

Ethylene tar is the heaviest liquid by-product of steam cracking, the process that turns naphtha or gas oil into ethylene and propylene. It is very rich in aromatic carbon, which makes it valuable for carbon black and fuel blending.

High Aromaticity

A high BMCI value shows the strong aromatic content that carbon black producers need.

Low Sulphur

Sulphur content is usually low because steam crackers run on low sulphur feedstock.

Dense and Viscous

Heavy liquid with density above water. Stored and pumped hot in heated tanks.

Inspected Cargo

Quality and quantity verified by an independent inspector at loading and discharge.

Typical Specifications

Indicative commercial ranges for comparison. The final specification is agreed in the contract and confirmed by the independent inspector's report.

Values are indicative and change from plant to plant. Ethylene tar is traded on the seller's own specification. Cargo quality is established by independent inspection at the load port.

Applications

Used wherever a heavy aromatic oil is needed.

Main feedstock for producing carbon black used in tyres and rubber goods.

Fuel Oil Blending

Blending component for industrial and bunker fuel oil, where the final blend meets its own specification.

Needle Coke

Feedstock for premium coke used in graphite electrodes.

Pitch and Binders

Raw material for carbon pitch, binders and road materials.
