Xylene comes in three isomers with the same formula but different shapes. M-xylene is separated from mixed xylenes for its own markets.

Where M-Xylene Goes
Mostly converted into isophthalic acid, with smaller uses as a solvent and intermediate.
Isophthalic Acid
Used in unsaturated polyester resins, coatings and gel coats.
PET Modifier
Purified isophthalic acid improves clarity and processing of PET bottle resin.
Chemical Intermediates
Raw material for isophthalonitrile and other fine chemicals.
