EASTERN SIBERIAN PACIFIC OCEAN (ESPO) CRUDE OIL

Origin & Route Produced in Eastern Siberia, Russia, and transported via the ESPO pipeline — one of the world's longest — stretching ~4,700 km to Kozmino port on the Pacific coast, enabling exports to Asia-Pacific markets.

Quality & Specifications A medium-grade crude with API gravity ~34–35°, low sulfur content (~0.5%), making it a relatively sweet, light crude — attractive to refiners for its good yield of middle distillates like diesel and jet fuel.

Key Markets Primarily exported to China, Japan, South Korea, and other Asian buyers. China is the dominant buyer, receiving ESPO via both pipeline (to Daqing) and seaborne shipments from Kozmino terminal.

Pricing & Benchmarks ESPO is priced at a differential to Dubai/Oman benchmarks and has historically commanded a premium due to its quality and logistical convenience for Asian refiners — though post-2022 sanctions shifted its discount/premium dynamics significantly.

WEST TEXAS INTERMEDIATE (WTI) CRUDE OIL

Origin & Infrastructure Extracted from the Permian Basin, Eagle Ford, and Bakken shale formations across Texas, New Mexico, and North Dakota. Physically delivered to and priced at Cushing, Oklahoma — a major pipeline and storage hub known as the "Pipeline Crossroads of the World."

Quality & Specifications A premium light, sweet crude with an API gravity of ~39–40° and sulfur content below 0.5%. Its low density and low sulfur yield a high proportion of gasoline and other valuable refined products, requiring less processing than heavier, sourer grades.

Market Role & Exports After the 2015 US crude export ban was lifted, WTI now ships globally from Gulf Coast terminals to Europe and Asia. US shale production has made it a top global exporter. Key price drivers include Cushing inventory levels, shale rig counts, and refinery demand data.

LIGHT CRUDE OIL (LCO)

Definition & Characteristics Light crude oil is defined by a high API gravity (above 31.1°), meaning it is less dense than water and flows freely at room temperature. It contains a higher proportion of short-chain hydrocarbons, giving it a lighter, more transparent appearance compared to heavier grades.

Quality & Refining Advantage Its low density and typically low sulfur content (when also "sweet") make it the most sought-after crude type. Refiners prefer it because it naturally yields more high-value products — gasoline, jet fuel, and diesel — with less energy-intensive processing, translating directly into better refining margins.

Key Examples & Benchmarks The world's leading benchmark crudes are light grades — WTI (~39–40° API) and Brent (~38° API) are both classified as light crude. Other notable examples include Saharan Blend (Algeria), Bonny Light (Nigeria), and Murban (UAE), all prized in global markets for their superior refining profile.

Pricing & Market Dynamics Light crude commands a consistent price premium over medium and heavy grades due to refining economics. The premium widens when global demand for transportation fuels is strong.

EXPORT BLEND CRUDE

A premium-quality crude oil blend known for its balanced composition and reliable performance. Export Blend Crude is valued in global markets for its consistent refining yield, making it a preferred choice for producing gasoline, diesel, and other petroleum derivatives. With stable supply and competitive specifications, it supports both industrial and commercial energy needs. PETROBIZINT ensures dependable sourcing and delivery to meet international demand.

Composition & Quality Specs: The physical and chemical fingerprint of the blend — API gravity, sulphur content, viscosity, TAN, and how the crude sits within the sweet/sour and light/heavy spectrum. Benchmark grades like Urals, Bonny Light, or Es Sider serve as reference points.

Export blend crude is strategically important for national oil strategies and is sold under long-term contracts or on the spot market. Its quality determines refinery yield and complexity, making it a critical feedstock for producing fuels and petrochemical products.

REBCO CRUDE OIL

Russian Export Blend Crude Oil (REBCO) is a medium‑sour grade widely traded in global energy markets. It delivers reliable refining yields for gasoline, diesel, and fuel oils. Valued for its competitive pricing and steady supply chain. PETROBIZINT ensures trusted sourcing and international delivery for diverse industrial needs.

REBCO (Russian Export Blend Crude Oil) is a medium-heavy, sour crude produced in Russia, with an API gravity of ~31° and sulfur content of ~1.6%. It is exported primarily via the Druzhba pipeline and Primorsk/Novorossiysk terminals to European and Asian markets. Priced at a discount to Brent crude, it serves as a key benchmark for Russian oil exports. Since Western sanctions following the 2022 Ukraine invasion, its trade flows have shifted significantly toward India, China, and other non-Western buyers.
